HOFOR district cooling works to ensure CO2-neutral cooling Copenhagen industry.
The district cooling is produced via free cooling from seawater intake as well as absorption and compression chillers that exploit surplus energy from the district heating in the summer months. This results in a highly efficient cooling production, far more climate-friendly than traditional air conditioning.
Use of district cooling
District cooling is typically used for comfort and cooling of server rooms, etc. Companies can achieve cost savings of up to 40% and reduce their CO2 emissions by up to 70% by switching from conventional air conditioning to district cooling.
Our aim is to spare the atmosphere 30,000 tonnes of CO2 per year when all of the planned cooling facilities have been established and the distribution network has been expanded to the entire capital.
HOFOR established district cooling in Copenhagen in 2009, and it is the company’s fastest growing business.
